بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله و بركاته

I was not done with my discussion on: “Is there a God?” I only covered the material part and the Universe, to some extent – coming into being of all that exists in general. I haven’t really talked about life in particular – which is much more complex than the “lifeless matter”. I have not taken the mission of proving the existence of Allah – not at all! We can not put Allah in a 2+2 = 4 type equation and say, “that’s it!! – we have proved the existence of Allah”. Allah can not be “bound” by/in the 4- dimensional space-time and then subjected to an equation, like say, 2+2 = 4 to prove Him. We must remember that, Space and Time “started” somewhere, along with the laws of Mathematics and Physics etc. So, if He is the creator and originator of “Space-Time”, then He must be independent of “Space-Time” and obviously, He existed before the point t = 0 i.e. when the time, as we know it, started “ticking”! We can only try to comprehend Him and feel Him “inferentially” – just like the way we know that, there are “black holes” without really “seeing” them. Allah himself called human beings to reflect in that way and understand the reality of His existence “inferentially”. For example, Allah Says:
Do they not consider the Qur-an (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. [Qur'an, 4:82]

No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have Lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the (sort of) things they attribute to Him! [Qur'an, 23:91]

So, I am just trying to call my fellow human beings in general and Muslims in particular, to “take a break” and think/reflect: Is there a God? If there isn’t any God, may be life has got no purpose. You can spend/spoil it in any which way you want to. But if there is a God and if He made/created us for a purpose, then what are we doing here – I mean spending thousands of man-hours of our lives writing/reading useless things, hopping from one link to another or one website to another in a restless and reckless manner? Of course, we are spending/squandering the most valuable “wealth” Allah has given us in such a useless manner! I am meaning “time” or more precisely our “life-time”. The most valuable material [diamond, gold or billions of dollars] can be kept in a vault for, say, years! However, time [or “life-time”] is a wealth, which can not be deposited in a vault or kept frozen to “enjoy later”. As for life, you have got to live it every moment, now and here. So, either you have obeyed your Creator [lets say for the sake of argument here, that, there IS a God – if our atheist friends give us a break] and utilized the time as it should have been, OTHERWISE, you have wasted it – there is no midway!

Flipping through the pages of average blogs/forums I really feel sad, understanding that, many people are really very lonely and possessed by the feeling of “meaninglessness” – they are moving around with a “nihilistic void” inside – with really no purpose of/for their life. They are so eager to “be known” and to express themselves – primarily because they are lonely. And hence they are restless in pursuit of “companionship” – if not “real”, at least “virtual”. But loneliness isn’t going to go away like this. Most of us have not taken any “time off” to think and reflect: is there a purpose of life? Translated into another wording, it becomes equivalent to: Is there a God? We will insha’Allah talk about the purpose of life in details, but lets just stick to the question: Is there a God?

The “primordial life” emerged by accident, due to Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen getting chemically combined, accidentally – whoever read any literature by an atheist on the origin of life, must have come across this type of suggestion(s). But if you take few moments off and reflect, it would sound ridiculous to you. Is there “anything” at all which has come to being out of “nothing”? The more you think of the genetic coding, the millions of “mega-bites”(!) of information stored in the “double helix” [i.e. DNA] – you start feeling that, you got to be insane to claim that, there is no Creator, Planner, Designer or Originator of this Universe and all that is in it and of course of this wonderful idea of LIFE! Lets just see what one of the most prominent scientists of last century thought about life coming into being “just by chance” OR by “‘accident”. No, he was not a Mullah from Medina, Cairo or Najaf. Rather he was a British scientist known as Sir Fred Hoyle – agnostic, arrogant and skeptic like many of his contemporary scientists. Yet he thought that, it was not “logical” to think that, life had come in to being automatically, by chance. See what he says:

“Life as we know it is, among other things, dependent on at least 2000 different enzymes. How could the blind forces of the primal sea manage to put together the correct chemical elements to build enzymes?”

According to his calculations, the likelihood of this happening (i.e. correct chemical elements being put together by chance) is only one in 10 to the 40 000 power (1 followed by 40 000 zeros). That is about the same chance as throwing 50,000 sixes in a row with a die. Or as Hoyle describes it: “The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way is comparable with the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk-yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein… I am at a loss to understand biologists’ widespread compulsion to deny what seems to me to be obvious.” (”Hoyle on Evolution”, Nature, Vol. 294, 12 November 1981, p. 105) [also please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Fred_Hoyle].
